Mission
Webb International Center for
Dyslexia, Inc. seeks to create a paradigm shift in the thinking and
behavior of parents, teachers and significant others interacting
with "children with school difficulty" , primarily dyslexics . Dr.
Webb has long sought to move remediation from "what's wrong with
Joey" to discovering and identifying “Joey's” strengths and then
creating environments in which he can use his strengths as
foundations for successful learning.
To effect its mission, Webb International Center for Dyslexia (WICD)
consults with students, their families and school teams to achieve
student success through collaborative programming.
In each case, Webb International Center for Dyslexia:
·
Reviews historical
information available, seeking untapped strengths (earlier
evaluations, school records, reports).
·
Seeks current
perceptions of strengths and areas needing strengthening from
parents, teachers, significant others.
·
Interviews the student
for his perception of their historical and current experiences.
·
Assesses more
formally, if appropriate, to identify strengths and areas needing
strengthening.
·
Interprets the
assessment to the learning to build understanding of the road to
successful learning.
·
Interprets the
assessment to the school team and home so that they may interact
collaboratively in the design of programs in which the student may
effectively use his strengths.
·
Identifies appropriate
additional resources as necessary.
·
Advocates on behalf of
the student involved.
·
Monitors the program
instituted periodically to assure its successful continuation.
·
Disseminates to school
systems and parents' groups, as models for their consideration,
videos entitled a "Mother's Story," a "Teacher's Story" and a
"Student's Story."
